How to Help:

These are the challenges facing the center:

 

• Teachers' monthly salaries

• Food - we feed the children 3 times a day

• Floor Carpets & foam mats for two classrooms and sickbay 

• Stationary & craft materials: Pens for staff, Markers, Coloured Paper, Exercise books hardcover

• Kids Clothing: Age 2-7years - Winter & Summer 

• Educational Activities/Colouring Books 

• Arts & Crafts supplies - crayons/paints

• Toys for playtime

• First Aid Box & Medication | Children’s toiletries

• Seeds for vegetable garden

• Kettle & microwave, gas stove

• Pots, pans & kitchen utensils 

• Plastic plates, bowls, cups & cutlery for children. 

• Standing Fans for classrooms & sick bay 

• Bed Linen & Towels

• Swings & chains for swing-set 

•  Paint for jungle-gym

• Tables & chairs for new classroom

 

In 2022, Shelter Botswana was gifted an additional ablution block building in order to comply with the council’s sanitary regulations (toilets & plumbing not included). Council’s inspection was conducted in October 2022, as such, we raised the BWP10,000.00 needed to install 2 junior toilets, 1 adult toilet, 1 exterior wash hand basin & attend to the septic tank. These materials & labour costs were generously donated by a private local business. The additional ablution block means that we can take on 10 more children from the ever-increasing waiting list. We have since raised the funds to build an additional outdoor Classroom & Lunchroom.

In 2022, we were also able to separate our electrical meter board from our neighbours with funds raised which allows us to reduce & control our electricity consumption.

 

For 2023, our projects include: 

A raised, covered walkway from the kitchen to the new ablution block. General repairs to the classrooms, kitchen, play area & interior bathrooms - please get in touch for more information on how to help
