Our Story
Shelter Botswana is a home-based care organization & non-profit governmental organization that, from its inception in 2011, has sought to facilitate an improved livelihood for poor individuals residing in the North West Sub-district of Botswana.
The organization involves itself with several community-based activities including, but not limited to HIV/TB awareness campaigns and the running of a pre-school designed for orphans and vulnerable children (OVC).
The pre-school currently has 35 children (2022) from the ages of 2 - 6 years.
The organisation's staff and volunteers run quarterly health education and awareness courses for community members at Maun's central bus station, which usually attracts 200 to 300 people at any one time. The courses include information about HIV and hygiene, and they encourage community members to use the services at Mowana Clinic and Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital. These courses are also given to the caregivers of students at the preschool.

Director
George Zulu
Mr. Zulu's main role is to oversee the smooth running of Shelter Botswana. The day-to-day requirements include resource mobilization, writing proposals, sourcing new partners, and coordinating the various programs and management of Shelter Botswana and its health & wellness programmes.
Senior Teacher & Supervisor
Georginah Wawga
Ms. Wawga’s role is to supervise Shelter Botswana’s teachers, monitor all classes & ensure that the staff are teaching with passion. Ms. Wawga teaches the senior/reception class
(Ages 5 -6: Children move on to Standard 1 next). Classes focus on pre-writing and reading skills, which are: writing three-letter words, writing their names, and writing numbers from 1-20.
Bookkeeper
Baboletse Zulu
Mrs. Zulu accounts for all funds received into Shelter Botswana and prepares the financial reports that are presented to donors and Shelter Botswana’s board
members.
Middle Class Teacher
Onkgodotse Candy Bodirirwe
Ms. Bodirirwe teaches middle-class (Ages 3 - 4) where the children focus on Fine Motor Skills which include colouring, tracing words & numbers, reading, and learning songs & rhymes.
Baby Class Teacher
Urieta Nguruka
Ms. Nguruka teaches the baby class (Ages 2 - 3). Baby class is the class that is based on pre-academic skills where they learn counting numbers and reading the alphabet. They also focus on fine motor skills where they learn the holding of crayons and colouring.
Assitant Teacher
Kelesitste Thapelo
Ms. Thapelo assists the Shelter Botswana teachers in their day - to - day responsibilities & classroom activities.
Cook
Thandiso Mlazie
Ms. Mlazie prepares three meals per day for the children and ensures that each child has enough to eat each day. Ms. Mlazie manages the supplies and groceries of the kitchen and maintains and cleans the kitchen area.
Cleaner
Thato Bajaki
Ms. Bajaki is the general cleaner for the shelter and ensures that the indoor & outdoor spaces are clean and safe for the children of the shelter.
Driver
Molebi Goitsemodimo
Mr. Goitsemodimo transports the children to & from the shelter and facilitates any other transport needs of the shelter & its staff.
Groundsman
Orapele Kabanna
Mr. Kabanna takes care of the vegetable garden where the shelter grows various vegetables to feed the children.
